superhero day

Superhero day

We had such a fun day last Thursday, look at all our wonderful costumes we wore!
Superhero to the rescue!

The whole school had a parade then danced on the courts, so many people had gone to such a big effort to come up with new superhero ideas. So much fun!

Writing

Shared writing

Our new topic for inquiry is people in need.  We will be looking at how people cope with change caused through natural disasters, such as earthquakes.Last week we read  the maori myth of the battle of the mountains and then we need some shared writing to retell the story.
In art we began our sketches of the battle, we will continue to work on this art over the next few art lessons.

PE

P.E

Today was the first day of large ball skills.  We ventured outside in the chilly air to "have a go" at throwing and catching.  We assessed our buddies on their skills and then finished with a game of over and under's !

Learning about Sir Edmund Hilliary

Sir Edmund Hilliary research

Today we have been working in buddies on our research project about Sir Edmund Hilliary. We are using  class ipads to find out the important facts about his expedition and success of conquering Mt Everest.

Writing about people from New Zealand that have shown courage

Sir Edmund Hilliary

As part of our inquiry topic , we have been looking at New Zealanders that have shown courage. Last week we did some shared writing about Sir Edmund Hilliary.  After listening to a story about his life and dream to become the first person to climb the biggest mountain in the world, we broke into groups and wrote about it.  What a fabulous recount room 2

Soldier art

Soldier art

We created some wonderful art to finish off our learning about ANZAC day. We drew a field full of poppies in pastel then painted two layers of dye over the top.  We cut out our soldiers in black paper , then placed them on top of the poppies. The effect is wonderful!
