Dino Dig

Digging for Dinosaur Fossils

Last Tuesday we became Paleontologists for the morning. We began with making comparisons between the human skeleton and the skeleton of a T- Rex. We started to see how some of the bones fit together. Then we got into groups of three and went outside to the excavation site (our sandpit)! We dug in the sand for Dinosaur bones.  We couldn't believe what we found.  We discovered thigh bones, back bones and even a jaw bone! When we returned to class we tried to assemble the skeleton pieces back together. We have the bones displayed in our class, if you get a chance come in and take a look.

The Minstrel Show

On Tuesday we had the Minstrel show. Mr Minstrel played songs on his guitar and we sang and danced.  We learnt all about fishing and boat safety. It was very entertaining and the children all remembered the key messages.

Fossils

Room 1 Paleontologists

This week we have been learning about Paleontologists and fossils. We have learnt that fossils are the preserved remains of animals and plants. On Friday we created our own dinosaur fossils. We made up batches of colored salt dough and then we pressed the mini dinosaur models into the dough.  The fossils were baked in the oven until they became hard. Here is the recipe so you can try this at home.
